Work has now been completed on a short compilation of songs centered around the theme ‘And God Created Woman’  just in time for Valentine’s Day! A sincere thanks go out to Sir Sy of NPR Records and my wonderful blog subscribers who spurred the project into creation.  Most of the songs included have appeared here at one time or another, but the tracks themselves have now been tweaked to the best possible quality by tha good Dr!  ’Circle of Amour‘ comes along as part of the playlist/preview to the production.

These cats are still most definitely cool (as the photo depicts) and more so, their recordings transcend the notion of being musically “relevant”.  If the ID as Blue Eyed Soul doesn’t bridge the genre gap, I’m not sure  what else can be done!  That being said, I’m sure that I’ve over-posted on the previews but they’re all and each – a jam…

Again, these jams might not fit tha true Throwback Thursday bill but the rhythms sampled certainly dial back to days gone by with original takes from: Teddy Pendergrass, The Stylistics, Mtume and  Debra Wells.

JLo‘s 2002 release was met with mixed criticism and with one review that “rang my bell”.

“While no one’s likely to confuse anything here with high art, the girl has a way with hooks, even if they’re often borrowed.“

That being said, I couldn’t resist posting the video depicting the season with LL Cool J, but my favorite from the album is “Loving You” which is featured below and just above the clip.  I hope you’ll take time to lend an ear and indulge a humble blogger’s perspective on Love, Life and (Pain?)

Ok, now that I have that out of my system (my favorite of Black Sheep tracks), here’s a glimpse into the dark humor of the rap parodies that the duo put on exhibition in their breakout album “A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing” released in 1992.

And if you’re of a strong stomach, the darkest of caricatures is titled “You Mean I’m Not” (hard) with stark naked reference that embodies the violent essence of today’s rap culture and maybe even the video games your kids might be playing.

Prince on the Muppets Tonight

*And yet I’ve lived to see “The Dawn“.

With new ears, the early verses seem to come with a softer vocal delivery than the original release and listening further, I discovered  new sense of the extension with a later, (and again) softer guitar soliloquy almost reminiscent of a “Talking Heads” vibe as in “This Must Be The Place”.  About and after the 6:00 mark, we’re really in for something special with additional vox and a bass line that exudes an almost rehearsal-like atmosphere and an Old School sound that I can’t quite put my finger on.  (WHAT IS IT?!!)

All in all, the end result is another delve into the sphere of “Life Shaping Music” brought to you in humble offerings with both-
